National Collections Centre Open Day

To celebrate its 25th Anniversary, the Amgueddfa Cymru National Collections Centre in Nantgarw is throwing open its doors to welcome you in for a fascinating free family day.

Prepare to be amazed by the range of objects all under one roof!

What can I do?

Explore collections not usually on display to the public, including trams, buses and even an air-sea rescue helicopter!

Have a go at a craft activity and create something to take away with you.

Test your skills with a family friendly quiz.

Join a guided tour with one of our experts (suitable for ages 8+)

  • Transport Collection – learn about vehicles of all shapes and sizes.

  • Conservation Lab – find out how we look after the objects in our collection.
  • Photography Collection – discover the huge selection of photographs stored at the Collections Centre and find out how to look after your own photos.
  • Coal Mining Collection - more than just picks and shovels!

Admire the display of classic cars provided by Cardiff Classic Car Club.

And if you need a cuppa after all that, you can put your feet up in the yard for a bit! Refreshments will be available to purchase, and you are welcome to bring your own food and drink to eat outside.

Do I need to book?

If you’re interested in the guided tours, please pre-book here. (Tours can be booked on the day if there is still space available.)

Where is the National Collections Centre?

You’ll find us in Nantgarw Business Park, about 8 miles north of Cardiff.

Postcode: CF15 7QT

Directions from the A470 (North):

  • Exit at the A468 Caerphilly/A4054 Treforest Trading Estate junction.
  • Turn left at the first roundabout, and at the next roundabout take the third exit onto, Parc Nantgarw.
  • Follow Heol Crochendy and go straight over the first roundabout.
  • The entrance to the car park is the second turning on the left.

Accessibility

Visitors with limited mobility and wheelchair and pushchair users - because of the nature of the site some areas of the collection can be difficult to get around.
